Baking Soda Biscuits

Makes: 10-12 biscuits

2 c. flour
3/4 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. vinegar
1/2 c. milk

In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and salt. Cut in butter. Stir in vinegar and milk until dough is sticky. Spoon onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Tips: These are great, easy biscuits and you probably keep all these ingredients on hand all the time. They are very similar to Bisquick biscuits but I don't always have Bisquick on hand. I used apple cider vinegar so I don't know how white vinegar might change the flavor. I made these twice this week with Beef & Veggie Stew and Corn Chowder. Here's a twist: Try dropping a tablespoon of dough on the cookie sheet and putting a small teaspoon of jam in the middle. Great breakfast treat! Awesome recipe! I made the biscuits last night and this morning.... I altered the recipe 3/4c Milk + 3 Tbsp of Vanilla and made Waffles! I used a mixer instead of hand mixing and they turned out great.

I made these with canola oil instead of butter and used pear infused white wine vinegar and they are absolutely divine! This is one recipe that's getting bookmarked to use and adapt over and over again. Thanks so much for sharing!

These are the best biscuits I have ever made! Light and fluffy and delicious! I have a daughter with food allergies, so I had to use water instead of milk. I was afraid they would not turn out, but they were perfect!

Can you use red wine vinegar?? Thats the only vinegar I have in the house & no money to go buy the right kind

Vinegar is used to create the reaction with the baking soda to make the biscuits rise... I would think any vinegar would work...

Great recipe! Used shortening instead and hand formed them into biscuits. Yummy. I served them with my turkey stew.

I made these last night. I added about a tablespoon of sugar and one tablespoon of water because the mix seemed dry. They came out fabulous!!!
